This painting grew from watching the sea at Nice in the early morning. Sunlight glitters on clear waves as they break against the rocks, softening their edges into gentle curves. I used watercolour washes to follow this rhythm, layering transparent tones to show both the brightness of the sea and the quiet force of erosion.
