Unapologetic is a painting of my Grandmother, she’s sitting instinctively facing the sun . The striking orange hue of her Afro is a bold statement of her self worth and visceral feelings. She’s trying to relax on the beach whilst carrying uncertainty . I painted this piece from an old photograph of her This painting is one of a series of my grandparents after they arrived here as part of the Windrush Generation .
